Swallowtail Alights

When butterflies are preparing to alight on a blossom, they often have their proboscis extended in anticipation of drinking nectar from the selected flower. This appears to be especially true when they are moving quickly among many flowers that are close together. When not feeding, their tongue remains coiled against their head.
