 This sweet face caught my eye during a demonstration today at Santa Anita racetrack. Several dogs made up part of the crowd. Protesters called for a permanent end to horse racing as the track reopened after a brief closure following the deaths of 22 horses in 10 weeks.

Floating through the tree tops, stopping to sip nectar from Lantana flowers and orange blossoms, hundreds of Painted Ladies have been gracing the garden for days as they move through Los Angeles on their migration route.     The air is filled with millions of Painted Lady Butterflies!
 Allen's Hummingbirds live along a narrow strip that stretches up the coast from California to southern Oregon. I am fortunate to be able to see and hear them every day!
