This sweet face caught my eye during a demonstration today at Santa Anita racetrack. Several dogs made up part of the crowd. Protesters called for a permanent end to horse racing as the track reopened after a brief closure following the deaths of 22 horses in 10 weeks.
Today, after taking rescue-dog photos, my dear friend and I stopped to have lunch. Ozzie, therapy-dog-in-training, came bounding into the restaurant and charmed everyone in sight by shaking hands and smiling. Our lucky Saint Paddy's Day!
This little Allen's Hummingbird repeatedly jumped up and landed at the top of this evergreen. Often it appears as though birds and beasts are simply expressing their happiness.
Floating through the tree tops, stopping to sip nectar from Lantana flowers and orange blossoms, hundreds of Painted Ladies have been gracing the garden for days as they move through Los Angeles on their migration route.
Allen's Hummingbirds live along a narrow strip that stretches up the coast from California to southern Oregon. I am fortunate to be able to see and hear them every day!
