A woodpecker's tail feathers are particularly strong and rigid. They use them as a brace when pecking. They also have two toes pointing forward and two toes pointing backward giving them a solid grip when climbing trees.
Collecting nectar from purple sage at dusk. At a certain angle, their black chin feathers appear as iridescent purple, almost identical to the flowers.
