Jackie Hadnot, pictured here, is the gifted woodworker who carved the cross that now stands at the center of Olvera Street. The original cross, set in place on Easter Sunday in 1930, had become weatherworn and needed to be replaced. He was just the guy to do it.
Jackie says the hand carved wooden monkey he brings to the Blessing of the Animals was discovered at a thrift store in neglected condition. Once in Jackie's hands, it was restored and has since become a mascot of Olvera Street.
